Joanne Mitchell is an orphan who decides she can no longer live with her aunt and uncle. So she disguises herself as a boy and runs away. Her adventure takes her across the Australian outback with an old horse and a puppy. The Runaway was written by Ruth Morris in 1961, and the cover illustrator for this 1964 Peacock edition was Richard Kennedy.
